Google has been working on a new feature that will help you validate sources directly in search results. This is a step forward for the company, as it looks to combat fake news and misinformation.

Google has added a new feature that allows you to validate sources directly in search results. This is helpful for users who are unsure of the source of information they are reading. Read more in detail here: about this result.

Google Search updates will make it easier to evaluate if a website is a reliable source of information before clicking a link in search results.

Google is offering new methods to give context about the content users discover on the web, as announced today at the company’s annual SearchOn event.

In addition, based on research and best practices from experts, Google is bringing out additional information literacy tools.

Here’s more on what Google is doing to add context to SERPs and what it implies for your website and the search experience.

Increasing the number of ‘About This Result’ cards

Google is extending the newly launched “about this result” boxes to help users learn more about the sources and subjects in search results.

You may bring up a “about this result” card by tapping the three dots on any search result.

In February 2021, these cards were released as a beta test to provide basic information about domains to searchers.

The following information was provided on the ‘about this result’ cards when they were first released:

  • The domain description
  • Is the domain safe to use?
  • The search result’s whole URL
  • Whether the outcome is natural or artificial

When Google introduced information on why a specific result is ranked in search, the cards got a significant upgrade in July 2021.

Google is now answering the question “what?” after using the “about this result” cards to answer the “who” and “why?” of a specific page.

As in, what is the point of this discussion?

A new “About the subject” section displays information such as recent news coverage or findings from other sources on the same issue.

Furthermore, the cards are receiving additional information about a source.

The ‘about this result’ card will show what a site says about itself in its own words, in addition to a Wikipedia summary (when that information is available.)

Finally, you may utilize the ‘about this result’ card to see what other people have written about a site on the internet:

Reading what others have said about a site on the internet may help you make better decisions regarding sources.

“People don’t simply go to Google for fast answers. They often desire to investigate the information available and discover more about where it comes from, particularly if it comes from a source they are unfamiliar with.

With this upgrade to About This Result, which will be available in English in the coming weeks in the United States, we aim to make it simpler to assess information. We’re also aiming to expand the reach of This Result to additional nations across the world.”

More Information on Rapidly Changing Events

In search results regarding quickly shifting events, Google will now offer additional context.

When an event is changing so rapidly that it’s difficult to tell what’s true and what’s not, Google will show a warning that says:

“These findings seem to be changing rapidly.

If this is a new subject, it may take some time for reputable sources to contribute results.”
